Concept
Sail Transport Company (STC) uses wind and tidal power coupled with human skills and ingenuity to provide a reliable system of trade and transport that is fossil fuel independent. STC was the first organization to experiment extensively with a pure fossil fuel free transportation system in Washington Water using engineless sailing vessels starting in summer 2008. Between Summer 2008 and Spring 2010 STC proved in well over 100 experimental sailing and land based trips that even perishable food can be transported in Washington Inland waters to scheduled times to customers in Seattle without using any fossil fuel either on land or water.
Mission Statement Statement
Summary
The Sail Transport Company is dedicated to developing and providing an innovative trade and transportation system which is both economically and environmentally sustainable.
Economic
The Sail Transport Company business model functions completely independent of direct liquid hydrocarbon fuel energy costs. Our goal is to achieve “measurable and reportable” hydrocarbon fuel independence, aiming for fossil fuel costs less than 0.5% of operating costs. Since inception in 2008 and after experimentally moving farm produce over 1300 miles and including another 2000 miles of experimental route development sailing using pure wind and tide involving dozens of Pacific NW potential supply and destination ports, STC had spent $0.00 on liquid hydrocarbon fuel.
Environmental policy
We do not use corn ethanol or other greenhouse gas-emitting fuels or any other fuels whose cultivation might remove productive agricultural land from the local food supply chain.
We support sustainable local agriculture and trade by providing an economically viable and reliable transportation system which prioritizes the use of local human ingenuity, skills and labor over the use of unsustainable fuel imports.
